The Engineering Manifesto
7 Non-Negotiable Operational Principles for Sovereign Software Systems
v20.0 (2026)
§1
Via Negativa (Anti-Waste Directive)
«Never automate what should be deleted.»
If switching costs exceed savings, automation is forbidden.
Before writing a line of code or deploying a database table — decide whether the problem can be deleted entirely. A deleted process requires no support, no monitoring, no migrations. Automating a broken process immortalizes it.
§2
Zero SaaS Taxes
«Self-hosted open-source over recurring seat licenses.»
Every SaaS seat is a tax that outgrows your business.
We build on a self-hosted open-source stack: PostgreSQL, Next.js, Twenty CRM, Trigger.dev v3. You pay for infrastructure (tens of dollars), not licenses (hundreds and thousands). No vendor lock-in: the complete Git repository and private infrastructure remain yours.
§3
Strict Schema-First (DDL + Zod)
«Deterministic validation over vibe-coding slop.»
Contract first: DDL schema and Zod schemas. Code comes second.
Every entity starts as a schema: SQL DDL for data, Zod for API and content contracts. Validation at the boundaries (build-time and runtime) makes the 'wrong data' error class impossible rather than probable.
§4
Async-First Velocity
«Asynchronous Loom walkthroughs over daily status calls.»
Zero meeting fatigue: communication in writing and video; synchronous only for decisions.
Status calls burn the most expensive resources — focus and context. We run on written updates, Loom videos, and a task tracker. Synchronous meetings are reserved for decisions that cannot be made asynchronously.
§5
100% Code & Data Sovereignty
«Complete Git repo transfer and private infrastructure ownership.»
No rented data: you own 100% of the code, schemas, and data.
Upon milestone completion you receive the complete Git repository, DDL migrations, and infrastructure runbooks. Your customers, orders, and analytics live in your own database — no platform can revoke access to your business.
§6
Single Production Leases & Memory Fencing
«Docker resource fencing against out-of-memory cascading failures.»
One production lease per service; hard memory limits per container.
Each service lives in its own Docker container with a memory fence: an OOM in one service never takes down its neighbors. One production lease per service makes rollback, migrations, and targeted restarts possible without full-system downtime.
§7
Fixed-Scope Knife & Escrow Protection
«Mutual protection via third-party escrow and fixed timeboxes.»
Fixed fee, fixed scope, funds in escrow until acceptance.
No hourly meters and fuzzy estimates. Every milestone has a fixed scope and fixed price; funds are frozen in escrow and released after your acceptance. This protects both sides: you never pay for process, we never work in an unbounded deadline.
